Overview
Oltre(Beyond) is a visual storytelling project that explores the perceptual world of Marco, a visually impaired young man from Como, using water as a central metaphor.
Despite his limited sight, Marco inspired the concept with his curiosity, honesty, and emotional depth. The project reflects his evolving self-awareness, shaped by both fragility and inner strength. Water serves as a symbol of his journey, from confusion to self-acceptance, mirroring emotions and personal growth through its changing states. Inspired by the natural water cycle, the narrative transitions from solid to liquid, visually expressing the transformation of Marco's inner world. Photographs are created using analog filters, and the use of semi-transparent materials for text pages enhances the sensory experience, inviting the reader to step into Marco's unique perception of reality.
How do you communicate someone else's sensory and emotional experience — Marco's, as a visually impaired person — through a visual medium, without flattening it into cliché?
An editorial/publication project for a university course, translating a personal interview into a physical book using metaphor (water) rather than literal illustration.
